The Black Market is not your average business directory—the companies listed have proven themselves through a stringent membership application which includes in-person interviews as well as customer and employee feedback surveys.

History
The Black Market was founded in 2008 by a Masters of Tourism Administration student at the George Washington University in Washington, DC.  The organization was created to showcase the added value that minority-owned hospitality businesses give to a majority-minority city.  By 2012, The Black Market will attempt to host its first annual hospitality tradeshow to garner support for its mission and raise awareness for customer service and employee relations standards in the African-American Hospitality community.
Vision
The Black Market Strives to create a benchmark for stellar business practices and customer service standards in the black community by regulating the scale by which we judge each other in the local hospitality arena.  A business which garners The Black Market seal shows that it has surpassed commonly held stereotypes about poor black business customer service standards.  This service standardization will officially launch in 2012 with the hosting of the first Black Market Hospitality business tradeshow in Washington, DC.
